That is indeed a mystery. Sometimes you might be light stains rightbefore your period. To test this try your powder again after your
period.
There are many other factors that may affect the color. If the
weather is particularly hot when you mix up your paste, the color may
be maxing out too quickly. You may have to do some tests to see how
long you should let it sit before you use it.
Maybe someone else here has some suggestions.
