The harvests through the henna year are NOT equal!
You might have henna from a sad harvest....
The henna from India and Pakistan that's harvested in June/July/August
is the best crop. You can have perfectly fresh henna harvested in
January to May, though that's just pitiful.

More heat generally maxes out the henna .... when the paste is dry on
your hand and sealed ... steam it repeatedly, and that will max out
the color!

Also ... as your henna has sat in the freezer longer, it seems to need
longer to release dye! Try letting your paste sit longer, or let it
sit warmer. Either one may compensate.
