Being concerned with health DOESN'T = hippie!Posted by Anne Beltestad on May 10, 2001 at 19:16:40: In reply to: paint thinner--did work! posted by Talia on May 9, 2001 at 21:41:35: Dear Talia,You seem to be continuing to have problems with real, natural henna. I honestly can't understand why it's been such an unpleasant experience for you. Henna is about beauty and relaxation, first and foremost. If you're not having that experience, something's desperately wrong. It sounds like you need to look inside yourself, find out what's motivating you. Henna should work well WITHOUT using toxins...it's worked for seven to nine thousand years on millions of people! PLEASE DON'T USE TOXIC CHEMICALS! If you don't like the smell and the color of henna, if you aren't enjoying your henna experience, why not move to face painting or something? Why are you doing something that is causing you so much frustration? I would rather see you give up on henna entirely than put poison on your skin or on anyone else's. I feel about paint thinner almost as strongly as about PPD - it's just BAD for you. Ask a doctor, if you don't believe people on this forum. If I saw a "henna artist" using paint thinner at a festival, you can BET I'd get her shut down. As for calling people "hippies" - you know, I get that a lot for being into eating well, exercising, or avoiding toxic chemicals or caring about the environment. When I hear that all I can think is, whoever's saying that has absolutely no idea what they're talking about and probably watches too much TV. No offense, but you're *way* off base. I hate the Grateful Dead and tiedye. I hang out with a lot of vegan punk kids. I'm into martial arts and german industrial music. And I DON'T have to justify my care and compassion about how we are currently treating our bodies and our planet to ANYONE. For your sake, the sake of the aquatic life downstream of whereever your sewage water flows, and for the sake of everyone who cares about you, STOP PUTTING PAINT THINNER ON YOUR SKIN! peace, Anne
