a few answers to a few questionsPosted by Darlahood on May 21, 2001 at 20:44:59: In reply to: Afghani bridal henna questions posted by Mary Beth on May 21, 2001 at 18:49:55: If your customer is muslim, all you need to worry about is notincluding portrait type images in your work. The face of the bride and groom can be used for Indian brides, but certainly not muslim because it is not in accordance with their religion. Everyone's different, though, some people aren't "kosher" about that stuff. Persian or arabic patterns should be fine. Give her a little henna today as an example of your work, just an idea. With that in mind, simply go with some designs that your client admires. Ask what part of the world she is from and print out some design pages from the lineart section of the Henna Page, also check out Catherine Cartwright Jones' patterns at the link below. Hands and feet are appropriate for bridal henna, do not offer to do henna anywhere else on the bride because you will have your hands full with the other customers, and she won't be able to move if you henna her any and everywhere. For parties charge and hourly rate ($30 at least), or if the hostess wishes to have the guests pay for themselves you need to charge the main client a retainer fee ($50 for example). Hope this helps, bridal henna is a big job for an artist just starting out, get some practice time in for yourself!
