Here is Kree's original message

http://www.hennapage.com/henna/forum/messages/38284.html

You will notice that she is quite specific about the graphic in
question.

Kree never mentioned ferns. In fact, that reference first appears in

http://www.hennapage.com/henna/forum/messages/38399.html

where Theadora wonders whether the fern in question was taken from
Alex's designs at

http://www2.bioch.ox.ac.uk/~alm/henna/lineart_fern.html

However, Alex is the first to admit that fern designs are hardly new.

Kim follows up in

http://www.hennapage.com/henna/forum/messages/38420.html

saying "Even if they deviate some from the original art they should
at least put an 'inspired from' credit on the site. ".

I would agree that this is a reasonable and polite thing to do, but
would anyone care to comment on whether there is any obligation in
copyright law to do so?

My understanding was that freehand work was generally deemed to have
deviated sufficiently that a source credit was not strictly
necessary. In any case, I'd have thought it would be very difficult
to prove that a particular design was the inspiration for a piece of
freehand work when the subject is as generic as a fern.
