I just read an interesting book "Not Even My Name" by Thea Halo,
about a Pontic Greek woman's efforts to delve into the holocaust her
mother lived through in Turkey in the early part of ths century.
Besides being a really good, heart-rending book, I found it
interesting that she mentions several times in the book that the
Pontic Greek women used henna to do their nails, which they gathered
from the woods around them. I thought I might write the author to
find out more, since every Turkish market that sold henna was selling
Indian henna and I was told several times that henna doesn't grow in
Turkey! (could be they were trying to get me to buy the Indian henna!)
