straining the paste

I've been trying to strain the paste through a stocking as shown on
kenzi's page. When I pull the stocking up its really hard to get the
last bit through. I end up with a lump of perfectly good henna nearly
dry still left in the stocking. How can I ensure that all of it will
go through (well except the pieces that will clog)?
