Men as well as women, actually! It's considered to be a "sin" to
have hair on your private parts especially. (though I suspect it has
a lot to do with cleanliness in a very hot environment) The removal
of hair from other parts of the body varies from place to place. I'm
not sure how much this trend is practiced among Muslims in the
west... I've never had the chutzpah to ask!

I think threading is from India though... at least the only threaders
are know of are Indian (and Hindu.)

Sugaring is a form of hair removal where you use a thick, taffy-like
paste (similar to cold waxing). My old roommate in college did
this... she got the recipe from an Egyptian friend, and it was an old
family secret. Of *course* she wouldn't tell me, and now she's
forgotten it!
