: I think threading is from India though... at least the only
threaders
: are know of are Indian (and Hindu.)

Elie (from Israel) says that Bedouin and Yemeni women thread! She
said that some of the old tribal women were amazingly deft with it!

I really can't conclude whether heat and cleanliness were the defining
factors in pube removal or not. I'm inclined to believe it has more
to do with group identity and status (displaying values of leisure
time, money to spend on appearance, willingness to endure
pain to be identified with a group, sexiness, and differentiating
onesself from "barbarians", slaves and animals). That ... and
identification of ladypubes with early ME and NA fertility cults vs
later monotheistic cults. (the identifying mark of one such religion
was a bushy female triangle, an interesting contrast to a crucifix).
The direct descendant of that triange is a fundamental icon in
Moroccan women's arts including henna!

I include the phenomenon of pube fashion and snobbery in my lecure
"Re-arranging the Trowser Furniture"... doing that one at Pennsic.
One of my favorite lectures.
