other May events and advertising ideas to explorePosted by Alissa on July 7, 2001 at 18:28:26: In reply to: Re: West Coasters, are you Siriusly interested in N.M. Spring 2002? posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on July 6, 2001 at 23:42:41: : :: : p.s. would i be able to bring things to sell? small time stuff only, : : painted jeans, saree fabrics, belly dancing bras, a little of : : each...just to edge off the cost? : : That's a good point. Is there anything like a festival or hafla that : we could work in conjunction with the conference? Or, could it be : promoted well enough to draw in people who will spend a few $ while : they're there? Some people do well with Sirius Rising, because they : can vendor, enjoy other events, and be a small conference within a : larger group of of people. A henna conference by itself is very : instructive and wonderfully intense, but one that fringes on a larger : event can be useful in different ways. hmmm the only thing that immediately comes to mind for that time of year are Beltane rites as observed by our Wiccan friends. There are groups who celebrate at campsites, so we could possibly piggy back by being nearby location-wise. However i dont know if they would take to the idea or not. is this something you or others would like me to explore? more craft show info may come along as the date approaches. i will keep my eyes open and ear to the ground. say... there is an Earth day event that's celebrated outdoors at the University around the beginning of May. I could look into booth costs, etc. if that floats anyone's boat. Its a semi-big outdoor concert, with bands that perform and booths set up nearby. Um, some perspective here -- Albuq. big = maybe 500 people around in a day. also, we could do some modest advertising around town, but my ad experience would lead me to believe this would probably cost more than turnout would warrant. but it is a promotional possiblity if folks are willing to split ad costs collectively. I have plenty of experience with advertising aroung town (from promoting dance concerts) and would have no problem drafting up a camera ready ad, something small like business card sized, to be placed in the smaller, but appropriate target-audience papers, and in the Alb. Journal. A Journal ad alone will be several hundreds of dollars though, sorry to say... but will hit the highest number of people. A Sunday ad running once (usually the week before the event) in the Arts section would be about $250 I'd guess, with a circulation that's around 15,000. well, any interest in these ideas?
