Re: yuckPosted by Um-Hussayn (meaning mother of Hussayn in Arabic) on July 10, 2001 at 07:00:15: In reply to: yuck posted by blah on July 8, 2001 at 15:01:38: I have to laugh at this individual's comments! It reminded me of whatmy ranching father said the first time he saw it on the hands of my daughter and sister-in-law. He didn't know what it was and asked innocently what happened to their hands. When they told him they MEANT for it to be that way, he was speechless for a few seconds...then got an evil grin and said it looked like their toilet paper ripped. :) Mind you he's 87 years old. My sister-in-law (who's from Singapore) got sheepish and hid her hands behind her back....and my daughter who knew grandpa was teasing started laughing. Mind you I know there are people out their that don't like henna....and I know a lot of Arab men who hate the smell, but they at least of the civilized behavior to be polite to others who may have a difference of opinion. By the way, has anybody ever seen Cat**** on Rye? I cant say I have ever spread it on rye, so I was just wondering how similar it would look. :) By the way, I don't think Yuck was really "sorry" if it offended anyone. (That's my opinion.) If he/she really did, why post such a nasty post? Just not logical. Now, as for Yuck's logical that we are trying to impress others with our henna designs....I know in my own case I am not. I love henna and I love adorning my hands and feet with it. Mind you I often wear gloves over it when I am in public, as a Muslim women...so logically it isn't for the public's admiration. SO, they very logic being used doesn't apply to me or many of the millions of women in the Muslim world who wear it. As for tattoos, that's haram (forbidden) while henna is not, so I will stick to my henna thank you. Unlike a tattoo, I can change the pattern worn every few weeks. And unlike the tattoo, my henna is good for the skin. So, don't worry about "Yuck". He/she has a right to their own opinion. And we have a right to ours. I love henna, even though my Norwegian-German husband hates it and is supported by about half the Muslim men in our community...that don't stop the women. We still wear it and enjoy having henna parties. So, have any of you ever gone to a traditional henna party? Um-Hussayn of South Dakota : I think they look like s***!They look cheap, like little children run amuck with permanant markers, yes i know the history behind them and the ceremonies they are worn in...big deal they still look like cat**** on rye...if i have offended any one sorry, i bet your henna stained hands and feet look like hell and don't impress anyone. get some nerve and get a tattoo.
