It sounds to me like you are mixing it too thickly. It should go
through no problem. Kenzi (whose method this is) uses Jacquard
bottles, for which thew henna must be mixed more thinly than for
cones, so that may be part of the problem. It took me a long time to
get the mix right for bottles.
