nylon stocking straining

This week I tried once again to make my own paste. I tried one batch
straining the powder through a tea strainer. Almost everything went
through it and when I tried to use the paste, it clogged my cone so
badly I had to chuck it out. So I tried straining the powder through
the stocking-in-a-coffee can thing and that worked a lot better.
However, I had read here that you should also strain the paste using
a stocking, plastic bag and milking the cow sort of motion. I tried
this twice using a small amount of paste and couldn't get it to work
for me at all. All that came out was a very small amount of liquid -
nothing that resembled paste. What did I do wrong?
