Saumer is not from India, it is actually from Sudan, and it has
nothing to do with limes. It is a black dye made from fruit skins,
which is illegal in the US (i don't know about Canada) because it is
a carcinogen. It was used for a while in Sudan and surrounding areas
as "black henna," but it has recently been replaced by PPD. I have no
doubt that the saumer-using artists in question are using PPD, and
either they don't know about it or they figure they can cover it up
with lies about saumer. PPD coming out of Sudan is often packaged as
saumer anyways, so the line between the 2 is not always clear. Go ask
them how long it takes their paste to stain, and how long the stain
lasts. If it takes a matter of hours, and lasts 2 weeks or more, you
have PPD on your hands (no pun intended!!). If that is the case,
bring them printed copies of the PPD rant, and hang around til they
have read the whole thing. If that doesn't work, just report them to
your city's *whatever you call it* that handles street vendors and
such. There was a huge shutdown in Toronto i believe some time last
year because a bunch of people got "black hennas" at an event, and
many of them ended up scarred. The body art parlor where the artists
were working was shut down.
Try that and pray that you can get these folks to stop using
PPD "black henna!"
Peace and love to all sentient beings,

: I have this little thing, that whenever I pass someone who is
doing
: black henna I ask them whats in it, and i constantly get the stupid
: reply " Oh its saulmer! very popular in india where henna
originated,
: it contains the powder of dried limes", I was like what? So i
went
: home dried some limes and tried to powder them with the good old
: thunderstick (which is a handheld blender) and to my content, the
: limes did not powder, thus proving that these artists are B/Sing.
: But since I've been hearing about this thing called saulmer, does
: anyone know exactly what it is?
