pomegranates, animal vegetable or mineral?

My grandmother has a pomegranate vine/tree thing in her yard. They
are big and ripe just about now. They look like some sort of alien
space pod when you open 'em up.
I think what I'm supposed to do is pick out the seeds, dry 'em, and
use them in a tea.
