I'm like you, SarahPosted by Alissa on July 26, 2001 at 19:03:59: In reply to: I think so more with each design I do posted by Sarah on July 26, 2001 at 06:34:24: If anyone asked me a year ago if I could draw I would've emphaticallyreplied "No way." But for some reason I can do with henna what I can't do with pen, paintbrush, pencil or charcoal. But, with a hubby who's an architect and CAN draw, I guess I've been very willing to dumb-down my doodling (gee, vines and flowers and such is drawing?) I get totally frustrated trying to draw my own designs for my design book, they all end up looking like !@#!. I do freehand all my designs, but unless it's my ubiquitous vine-doodle I need a design to refer to, can't just draw from the top of my head. (which reminds me of a goofy story ... Client says: "I want "Grumpy" on my forearm, points to arm. Me, wrinkling nose in confusion : "Um, ok but I need a picture to work with." Him: "Uh, just the letters I mean, like old looking letters." Me, realizing he DIDN'T mean the Dwarf and wanted Gothic lettering done instead :"Ohhhhhh!") But I still cringe inside when I call myself a "henna artist" to those who don't know the term mehndi. (inner voice : artist, hmmm yeah right). Nick must be right, medium matters -- guess the magic's in the henna.
