PEWWW!!!!- HELP

Ok, I just mixed my first batch of henna, the powder smelled ok until
i mixed it with black coffee and lemon juice..my daughter is running
around the house screaming "god that smells" I also put some mehndi
oil in it, im not sure whats in the oil but it smells a bit like
citranilla ( stuff they use in bug candles).I was just wondering if
its supposed to have a strong smell to it! Now its been sitting for
about an hour and it has the consitancy of mashed potatoes... is that
the way it's supposed to be or is it supposed to be smoother after it
sits?? any help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks
