New to Henna

I am new to the Henna tatoo art. My first attempt was successful as
far as the designs go. Unfortunatly though the color was not very good
I had subjects wash the area well first then applied the Mehandi oil
I purchased (Shelly Mehandi Oil, from Kaveri Ent.). Once dried I
applied the Henna (Rani Kone Henna Paste, a premixed paste in a tube).
After allowing to dry for the recommended time( one hour) it was
scraped off to reveal the pale design. I reapplied and it did darken a
little but not to the degree I would hope. Any suggestions offered
would be greatly appreciated as we (my wife and I ) are hoping to
offer this service in her hair salon.
