: My question is... what is the proper
: term for describing the art of the application of henna. Henna
: painting? And more, what should the end design be refered to as, I
: never feel like calling it a "henna tattoo" is correct.

For me, I don't like using the word 'tattoo' to describe what I do.
You are correct, it isn't a tattoo and that, IMO, is misleading to
call it so.
I describe it as a 'henna stain'. I then explain to people that it
stains the upper 1/3-ish of the skin...etc, and this is how it is
temporary and lightens as the skin exfoliates/regenerates.
I describe the art of henna staining as Mehendi. What is on my skin
is the stain, what I do is Mehendi.
When people look at it and say something ignorant like "well it's not
real", or "I have real tattoo's", I tell them this is real and it's
not a tattoo. Which usually stops them dead in thier ignorant little
tracks because I have just told them something their little pea
brains can't comprehend. Then they usually want to know more. Hmmm,
seems to be a little attitude in that last paragraph...lol.
Just my .02$ also.
