Well, as Nick mentioned, the very fact that henna can be imported for
hair prevents FDA from stopping skin artists.

I'm definitely in favor of regulatory mechanisms in many cases, but
this is ridiculous; people always have had that virtue of *personal
choice.* Don't we have the ability to take the risks that we want
to, especially when we know that a particular practice has been safe
for centuries? The henna question actually has made me to start to
question my views on a lot of other things. If I support henna
importing, then am I also to support drug legalization and other
deregulation that would (a) allow people to have more personal choice
and (b) put them at greater risk for harm? I am starting to
think "yes," and this is coming from a girl who's never even smoked a
cigarette!

PS - Re: Harry Potter. Are you going to see the film? Are you
excited for the book? I think I'm at the point where I just want to
read the series as quickly as possible because the plot is so quick
and fun. In many other respects I'm quite annoyed with the Potter
hype (and hey, I'm a part of it); the books are taking AGES to come
out, and there are so many other great kids' fantasy literature out
there that doesn't get as much attention. I think they should just
let the Potter books come out and not tell us so much how they will
come out in June, no, October, no January. Another kids' book author
I love is Philip Pullman; try his "His Dark Materials" trilogy. It's
a little atheistic, but it's really fascinating.
