I generally use it hot. I think I've heard that using it hot helps
the dye release, but if you leave it overnight time will do that as
well.

Leave it at room temperature. I don't refrigerate mine until I've
got the consiostance right and I've strained it (I use j-bottles, so
I strain the paste a la Kenzi).
