It won't matter what the straps are made of, they rub against the skin
causing it to slough more quickly.

I like the suggestion of hennaing around the sandals. My first henna
design on another person was a henna "sandal" for my sister. In her
case she wanted something she could enjoy at home but cover up when
she went out. She is way too shy.
