I get the water to turn a very dark red... not lipstick red but
certainly red! I was astounded the first time it happened, it was
such an amazing color.

Nowadays I add whole cloves, tea leaves and dried tamarind to the
dried limes, and boil the whole thing for 45 minutes or so.
