henna help

Hello, we just got back from Florida where my daughter had someone in
Universal Studios put a henna tatoo on her back. He didn't give us
any insturctions so by the third day it was gone! I went to the
store and bought a bag of henna and tried to do it for her again.
Thois time instead of being brown it was a gross orange (universal
was brown) I tried is it me or the henna? How do you mix it? Smells
yukky and it is very gritty I want to do a small design put in order
for it to come out of the bottle i have to make it really thin. Can
that effect the color? Help me figure out what i'm dopind wrong
