Question for CCJ and others about fading of terped stains

Studying my stains from terped henna I can see what you mean that is
doesn't go through the pumpkin stage, just from brown to nothing.
What seems to be happening is that when the design is new there are
lots of brown stained skin cells really close together, and as the
design gets older, there are fewer brown spots, or rather they are
less dense. Nothing is orange, the color is still brown but there
are fewer cells that seem to be dyed.

Does this make any sense? This is just my perception of what is
going on, but I am curious to know what is going on there,
scientifically speaking. Why does terped skin fade this way, whereas
non-terped skin fades through shades of orange?
