Sorry, but that's a totally inaccurate statement. For a start, "an essential oil" by itself is going to have no effect on henna if it doesn't have a high level of the relevant terpine molecules for oxidation ... and those are terpineol, geraniol, lineol, and a couple of others. The activities of terpines (some of the molecules in essential oils) are very specific, and oxidize henna to varying extents. Each essential oil has different levels of MANY different terpines. Some essential oils darken henna because they have high levels of terpineol, etc .... and other essential oils LACKING this group of naturally occurring hydrocarbon solvents don't darken the henna whatsoever. Since there are 70 varieties of eucalyptus oil, and there are varying ways of distilling them, this question does not have a simple answer. I've found 4 different eucs with entirely different levels of different terpines. None of them have the high levels of terpineol that TT does, nor do they have the other molecules in the same quantity as cajeput or ravensara. So far I've never tried a euc that did anywhere NEAR the darkening as TT, caj and rav. I think there are some other eucs that have different characteristics . .... Mark has one that smells like no other euc I've ever seen. I don't have any of those, myself, though Not only that, but some of the high-terp EO's have magnificent fragrances, the loveliest being cardamom, geranium, and geranium bourbon. And, the ones I'm recommending have the same safety level as euc. See the link below for details, as well as http://reverndbunny.sphosting.com/opener.htm which shows that some eucalyptus oils don't do a durn thing.
