The commercially available "black henna" hair dyes often have either
indigo + henna or PPD plus henna.

Henna over the usual hair dyes is certainly potentially disasterous,
because henna is acidic and coal tar dyes are alkaline, and the
chemical reacion can literally incinerate the hair. Any mix with
henna is apt to cause you problems. Indigo by itself is not a good
match with PPD, but not as evil as henna over synthetic dye.

You're going to have to let your hair go without dye for quite a while
... then start working with some of the herbal mixes. In a few months
start harvesting your spare hair from your hairbrush and try some of
the mixes at the link below ... and some of the all natural herbal
preparations.
