Henna colour over previously dyed hair

I used to be a licensed hairdresser until I developed an allergy to
PPD, now I've changed careers. I was taught always to ask client if
he/she had henna in their hair because reactions could be horrible.
Is this true in the opposite case? My hair has been coloured with a
black chemical hairdye. If I want to put a black henna on top of the
chemical dye will disaster happen? The henna colour I found has no
PPD in it.
