Hi Nick,

I always find the questions asked to be far more critical than the
answers given. What do you have if everyone on the forum says, "Yes
Nick, we want your book...we must have it right now!" I think you
will have nothing useful. Your questions are better asked of
yourself. Ask yourself: Do I want to do this book?...When do I want
this book?....Is this the book I want to do?...Is this the way I want
to do this book?...Do I have the time to do this book right now?

It seems to me that you might want to spend sometime reassessing the
way you are thinking about some of your ideas for the book. There
are two ways to look at the issue of what is an original creation.
One is that no two people can create the same thing identically.
Each individual brings something uniquely their own to the process so
as to make it impossible for two people to create the same identical
thing. The other way to look at the issue is that we all stand on
the shoulders of those who came before us. It is possible to build
on the work of others...to collect the work of others...draw
comparison between the works of others...to compile in a certain
order the works of others. All of these are legitimate ways to look
at organizing...reinventing...espounding on the work of others.

I hope you don't spend too much time building a trap for yourself.
You could possibly work on one design for 5 years trying to come up
with something 100% original. When you think you have it, I can
assure you that adequate research will show you that someone else has
done something quite similar 9000 years ago or yesterday. What is
new under the sun? How much time will it take to collect all of the
information already available under the sun just to make sure you
have not duplicated something someone else has done? How much
creating would an artist get done if he/she spent time on such
thoughts?

Maureen
