Re: Check on your neighborsPosted by Christine on September 15, 2001 at 22:59:03: In reply to: Check on your neighbors posted by Linda in NJ on September 14, 2001 at 22:21:33: : As I live in New Jersey and work in New York I have come across: literally dozens of people who have lost someone in the past several : days. One of the more upsetting ocurrences in the past three days : happened to my husband. : : Many of our neighbors are Middle Eastern and we haven't seen them out : and about since Tuesday morning. Bill (my husband) finally saw our : upstairs neighbor and asked after his family. Although his immediate : family was okay a close friend of theirs had called them from the WTC : before the building collapsed and he is presumed dead. What was so : upsetting to my husband and me (beyond the obvious) is our neighbor : looked surprised when Bill asked how he was doing, and amazed that : anyone cared (we aren't Middle Eastern). : : Please, even if you don't know your neighbors take the time to say : hello and ask after them, you may be the first person to do so. : : I hope and pray that everyone you know is safe; if you have lost : someone know that prayers of strength and caring are with you. : : Linda It has been hard in CT as well. My Iranian friend, every Saturday we do coffee & shopping. Today we were at Starbucks and the anti-Middle Eastern is very apparant here. I was called a "terrorist lover", huh? I was born on a United states air force base I can't Get any more "American". And I'm doing a street fair and teaching Middle eastern dance to children. despite everything, why, because like blacks, jews etc, you shouldn't blame a whole race or religion for an act of a cowardly few. Okay sorry got on a political kick I apologise... I'm going to show children not everything Middle eastern is "terrorist". I know the middle Eastern dance community is getting part of this anti-middle eastern, the irony, is the dancers here are Americans. Morocco emailed me this prayer, email me and I'll forward it ot anyone who wants it.. Christine
