: Much depends on the volume of work they can pitch your way, and the
: price floor. If they pitch you so much high end work that you're
: still working at $100 an hour net (gross $200 an hour) then its a
good
: thing. If you're not getting tearass volume of highprice
work .....
: no good.

More than anything, it is the aftercare that takes a long time. I
can do the designs quickly, but sitting with the client while they
dry and dabbing lemon-sugar occasionally and then wrapping really
eats up time. I don't mind that time spent, but if I am getting 50%
of the total take, I am afraid that my attitude would have to be more
mercenary so that I don't make a financial loss. And being a
mercenary henna artist is not what I do this for. And the prices I
would have to charge to make it worth my while would be unnecessarily
exorbitant for the client.

:
: There are retail situations where high overhead can be absorbed by
: ultra high volume and high prices (ie a shop stall at Disneyland)
and
: other times when its just a disaster. You'll need to investigate
: further.
:
: And remember, if you DO have high volume and high price floor, you
: MUST be able to speedsling. If you have to do $200 of henna per
hour
: to make the numbers come out right, you have to be able to DO $200
of
: henna hour after hour. And, because you're asking people to pay
: upmarket prices, you have to deliver upmarket quality at that
speed!
: (Pressure? Take a big whiff!)

Speedslinging? Well, not really my forte tho I am not glacial by any
means, but I think I would have to practice speed aftercare: give
each person a baggie with a lemon-sugar soaked cotton ball and push
them out the door. That kind of aftercare is fine in a street
fair/ozz fest type environment but not exactly what people expect in
a spa. Maybe the spa would be willing to take over the aftercare
activities? Hmmm

I told her my arrangement is usually 70/30, and she refused that and
wouldn't even agree to 60/40 so I think it's just time to move along.
