French Flags Flying?Posted by txilar on September 23, 2001 at 05:23:05: In reply to: prescience and bedraped lawn geese o/t posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on September 22, 2001 at 23:39:36: With the current run on flags, some have even taken to a "redressing"of sorts, of other flags. For example, I saw an *upside down* French flag, with "God Bless America" written on it. These Southerners [yes, I'm one too, none of us had a choice though, we was blessed Southern by tha grace'a God. =)] will do anything to display the red, white and blue. Obviously, ANYTHING! Then there's the stadium size flags the size of bedsheets gracing damn *de rigeur* Ford pickups. It does get a wee bit scary, but I've got to confess, this city of mine is pretty darn cultural for all it's Southern-ness. I couldn't handle it otherwise! : : I wonder how many mediums and voodoo priestesses predicted the : : events at the WTC? : : Of those I know personally (Mambo Miriam and a few others), hadn't : mentioned anything very specific (just the usual forboding images that : always lurk in human pre-cognition) ... BUT .... nearly all : felt certain a time was coming when people worldwide would realize : that we're all one blood and we have to back off of nationalism and : cooperate on a global scale to survive as a species. : : : : : Or was it something you : : couldn't put your finger on? : : Recent events have brought out both the best and the worst in people. : That's to be expected, I suppose. Fear, grief, vengeance, patriotism : and anger are powerful emotions. They can be used for good or evil. : Personally, I'm bemused at the effect its had on the local front yards : ..... all the concrete lawn geese are dressed in red-white-and-blue : outfits now. Gung-ho kneejerk jingoism suits a cast concrete lawn : goose, I suppose. But, I don't know if that's the message the owners : wanted to send.
