I'm redesigning my website and can use some advice

I remember when Alex posted his website, people absolutely loved it,
and then some other folks have posted theirs and gotten almost no
response. My old website is down and I'm in the process of a
redesign, so I have the opportunity to change stuff to make it a
stand-out site. What do you like in a site and what makes you go
elsewhere? What feature do you not see enough of and what's the
boring thing that everyone does?
