Many incorrect assumptions are made about the relationships in early arranged marriages. I think the "betrothal" at 6 is apt to te the correct interpretation, and "cohabitation" at 9 is a reasonable translation option as opposed to "penetration". Several things could be done to create the appearance of defloration for public display, without actually "doing the deed" on the "night of the entering", when such was necessary. There's no reason to assume a kind man would be cruel. Apart from that... Looking through old records and comparing them to present, I often wonder if there was much difference in early sexual activity now as opposed to then, despite the difference in ages in arranged marriage. I had two childhood friends who were pregnant by age 12.
