Itchy Henna?

I bought some henna that leaves a brilliant orange stain even before
it dries. It was mixed with lemon and rosewater only. This is what I
always use. (No terps this time) I did a small design on the inside
of my arm but had to remove the paste when it started itching.
Cortizone cream relieved the itching.
Thinking that I imagined it all, I did a design on my palm. Within
10 minutes my palm was itching and my fingers were throbbing so I
washed it off. This morning the design has darkend to burnt orange.
Has anyone else ever had this happen? Could it just be me? The
fields around our house are full of ragweed right now.
