o-t on spinningPosted by Alissa on October 31, 2001 at 15:11:51: In reply to: Re: palmistry and spinning posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on October 31, 2001 at 14:44:06: : OH wow! I spin .... actually very well! I have an Ashford: Elizabeth, and have handspun spun and knitted many, many sweaters! (I : adore Romney!) WOW i wondered if you did after perusing your knitting sites with the tapdancinglizard. I'm buying a Louet S15 (double treadle) although the ashfords are just adorable little things, much prettier. But i like how the louets handle, and hold tension. I've been spinning for several years (about 5 i think) & knitting since ohhhh like 12 years ago. I've been renting wheels for my spinning fixes, but decided it was time for a long term relationship & commitment :) I first spun enough wool for an entire sweater with a drop spindle, taught myself how to use it no less. That was enough of drop spindle for me though - havent done anything with it ever since. My wheel spinning skills are still developing - i can only spin for short intense weeks out of a year, it aggravates my old carpal tunnel stuff if im not careful. I love tweeding!! It delights the eye to see those swirls form right at your fingertips. The first time I spun, it was like remembering how - not learning it brand new. I'm certain my hands have spent plenty of time at the wheel in other incarnations. :) Mostly I've worked w/various wools and also done a great deal with a friend's long hair dog fur, collected by her for me to do (she knits). That feels REAL - everything from cleaning, drying, carding, combing, then spinning & setting the twist. It spins into nubby stuff, very textured & fun. I've worked w/preparing wool as well, but not as much. I've also tried "spinning in the grease" & didnt like it. Yuck. How bout you? oooo spin spin spin talk! great fun!
