The elusive Andalusian SquigglePosted by Lauren on November 7, 2001 at 02:12:19: I was looking at two illustrations from The Book Of Chess recentlyand I noticed a similar pattern on two women in two different pictures. They both have fingers done in black up to the palm joint with some sort of squiggle-line-pattern just above the knuckles. Is this likely to be the same woman, or is this a common pattern, and if it's common, is there a source with a closer drawing of the same pattern? Did Andalusians use the Persian ammonia technique, or did they use something else? There's another woman in one of the same pictures with red-brown fingernails, so I'm pretty sure the black is meant to be black and not merely dark colored. Lauren
