I had the same thing happen rather recently. What I was told is that
because my "moon" was about to start, I wouldn't stain decently for a
few days. It seems that was the answer, because about 5 days later,
the same henna made a wonderfully dark stain on my hand. (I had
refrigerated it) I don't know if this is the reason for your
problem, but thought maybe it will help others who henna around that
time of the month.
