: 1. Why does it not only change darkness but also colours on
differant
: areas, the redness especially?

There are different types of skin and they take up stain differently.
The keratinized skin (palms and soles) is thick and dye uptake is
fast and deep. There you get the beautiful red colors easily.

The thinner skin gets only a shallow uptake. Without terps this can
be very light indeed ... and under high magnification, you can see
that the nucleus of cell resists dye ... contributing to the overall
light appearance. Also, these cells are exposed to air, and less apt
to have ammonia-bearing perspiration, so you just get the carmel brown
oxidation at best.

With terps, if I understand correctly, there is better penetration in
non-keratinized skin, and it's carrying its own oxidation with it.
So, though the take may still be comparatively shallow, you will get a
respectably dark stain, though in the brown ranges rather than the
red.

: 2. How much terp-oil to henna paste should there be? (i dont think i
: put enough in the first mix)

I don't think there's a final answer on this! I throw in about 1/10
oz per 3 oz of paste.
