I got dye release in 8 hours with just lemon juice...I never got as
far as stirring in the coffee. (You can see dye release, just by
watching the color shift...it gets a bit browner, but not much. If it
gets a lot browner, it's gone too far.) If you keep the henna powder
in the coolest part of your fridge, in a ziploc bag, enclosed in
snap-down lid margerine container, it will be as good next spring as
it is today.
Hot coffee is useful for the ususal sort of henna available in shops
and suppliers (medium grade henna) because they frequently need a
good whack to get the dye release going. But, when you have something
really fresh and primo, it takes only a slight nudge to get the dye to
release.
