I love being called "the Sesame Street generation came of age" . . .Posted by jennifer on April 23, 2001 at 08:17:37: In reply to: Thank you. It was an enjoyable rant. posted by Catherine Cartwright JOnes on April 23, 2001 at 03:53:10: it sure beats the "dazed and confused" label i had heard before.almost makes me proud. thanks, i really like that and i have to admit that was the way i was raised here, mostly, in sunny california. i remember only one incident that irked me about my father. it was after he met one of my best friends from my school and tried to tell me to be careful that "they" didn't live like we do. innocent that i was i said "your right, her mom and dad are both lawyers and man you should see her room and house!!!". my dad was real quiet and then just walked away. i laugh about it now but my mom's influence and just the generation that i lived in taught me to accept people and their differences as interesting and not threatening. i didn't really know about racism until much later in life when it happened to me. i will remember that "label", i like it. thanks, jennifer : It's a far sellable magazine spread to say "Madonna Discovers Henna : and India, Infuriates Countless Gurus" or "Sting gets hennaed, does : tantric yoga and nails wife for hours" (does she have a lot of spare : time?) or "Gonzo $ Fabboo $ New $ Highly $Profitable $ Deeply $ : Spiritual $ Cosmic $ Body $Art" or "Ancient Spritual Sex Henna Secrets : Revealed!" : : .... than an article titled :"Thousands of third graders ask their : friends just after Diwali "gee did that hurt?" or "Thousands of : American kids get curious about curry, hummus and henna at backyard : parties while the other lot try BBQ chicken wings and pizza." : : Getting into media doesn't make something true......... it just means : something got glossy for 15 minutes. The truth is generally pretty : quiet and sensible, and often makes lousy news. : : Thank goodness.
