If you want to start doing henna professionally, however, I would suggest you first DO YOUR HOMEWORK, i.e., try to analyze who would use henna in your area - do you have ethnic populations? do you have a college? Do you feel safe doing home visits? Estimate what your local population can support in the way of pricing. You don't have to have a studio, although you might put together a nice portfolio and check out the beauty salons. If you have a small amount of money to spend, I would start by having: an interesting, attention-getting name; a logo; a very professional- looking informative brochure; a business card; a flyer; and if you get salon opportunities, a color poster as large as the salon will let you post. Most of your business materials can be done relatively cheaply at a copy shop and still look nice - you can blow up photos to around 11"by17" and laminate them. If you decide to do homevisits, flyer every coffee shop, exotic store, etc. Try to find a place that will let you work for a weekend and hand out "free finger" coupons to get your business rolling. Don't forget also benefits -- some of my best paying customers have evolved from free gigs I did for community events. You mention you've been doing it for several years- have you had good pictures taken? Consider asking your friends and finding someone who is an aspiring photog to take professional quality pictures. I started out with one roll of b/w and one roll of color done by a pro. Of course I was indebted to her for months afterwards because we traded for free henna on her daughter for the next 4 months! But it was worth it because the pictures came out beautifully. And of course, check out the competition, if any - what are they charging? what are they specializing in? Be different and highlight the differences. Hope these hints help. Also, read Reverend Bunny's business rants. My main suggestion is keep your investment low and your profile high! Ciao and good luck, Kree
