Re: Cajeput and Earth Henna/solution et alPosted by Maureen on July 1, 2001 at 22:49:02: In reply to: Re: Cajeput and Earth Henna/solution et al posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on July 1, 2001 at 19:25:21: : :It appears that whenever I put eucalyptus oil on my skin prior tothe : :henna, where ever the eucalyptus oil was place the design is much : :more faint. It also disappears from that spot the quickest. : : That has been my experience. BUT .... there are 70 species of : eucalyptus trees, 4 different marketed US oils (blue gum eucalyptus, : and 3 others) and they have entirely different characteristics. More : than that ..... the distallation methods are going to alter the levels : of the different terpines available. Most eucs have low levels of : terpinol, if any ... but some may have higher levels. : : Mark showed me a euc from India that was NOTHING like I'd ever seen : (or smelled), and it was great for henna. The ones I've used from : here have made little if any difference in henna whatsoever. You can : see at the link below that AuraCacia eucalyptus in the mix made no : improvement in stain. And ... the color results on this, while good, : with wrap and steam, are not as dark as cajeput w/o wrap or steam! : : That's why I think the key to all this is to understand that there are : a number of different terpines naturally occurring in these essential : oils, and some work well and others dont. So, instead of looking at : the EO's (which have varying levels of many terpines) you have to look : at the individual terpines and see what has the highest levels of the : one you want. Terpineol is at the top of my list. : : Whatever EO's are in Earth Henna, they may be only penetrating down : 3-7 layers of cells, and interfering slightly with the henna : penetration. Cajeput lasts 8-12 days. (Un-terped henna seems to go : 12-24 days) I'm not certain why the EO's would inhibit the : penetration ... OR ... perhaps they are engergizing exfoliation! Yes. It really appeared based upon how the design just disappeared that something quite spectacular was going on with the rate at which the skin was exfoliating. And if I am understanding this correctly, the Cajeput, Ravensara, Frankincense and Tea Tree are so far the four essential oils you have discovered with the terpines that have provided the most satisfactory results? What is Terpineol? I asked for it at the various stores here that stocked the other four oils and none of them carried it and the owners all drew a blank as to what it was...never having heard of it. Is there a better place to look for it than the stores that carry the essential oils? Here, I get the best selection of oils from little boutiques like Hocus Pocus and Into the Mystik. They have been hard to find otherwise. Back to the possibility that the eucalyptus oils energize exfoliation. That could be a great quality unrelated to henna. I wonder what would happen on the face where I spend lots of money for products to do just that...exfoliate. Maureen
