Hey Nick,

I have to echo Darla's words and say take it easy! Now you are way
ahead of most of us in terms of developing your henna business. I
didn't even learn how to henna until the summer before my freshman
year, and look at you! I'd say that right now you should worry about
developing your talent and kicking ass in your high school classes.
And play the tabla and sitar more, dammit! All of these things are
good to do, too, and you'll have time to develop your henna skills
before developing your business.

Don't EVER think that you don't apply yourself enough. I think that
you're one of the best henna artists I've ever seen, and my first
impression of you was of how accomplished you are, at only 14! I
know that patience is a pain in the ass, and I know how mad I've felt
when I couldn't pursue my henna interests when I was too young, but
you're right, patience is *key*. You'll be able to drive in a little
more than a year, right? Maybe you could tell people that (a) they
have to come to your home to henna or (b) the place has to be
accessible by public transportation and you need compensation. That
way you wouldn't have to depend on the family as much.

My impression is that, right now, it's not worth being all too active
with developing your business - school's always been important to me -
and it's worthwhile to make sure that everything is set for college
(BTW - early college apps advice: make slides of your henna work and
also make audiotapes/CDs of your music - that's what got me into my
school). If you want to do more business, try going to the Borders
Bookstore or any other bookstore around. When I lived in PA, I had
demonstrations at Borders all the time, and while it didn't make me
money, I had a great time and got speaking/teaching experience. And
I received gift certificates after every demonstration.

Also, just to let you know, your articulate way of speaking and
writing has always impressed me. Develop that skill; you're good!
Anyway, let's henna again soon (when my exam crap is over, for
instance, and when you're settled with high school stuff). :)

~Rupal
