I tried that after seeing black iron oxide as a prepmix paste constituent. I was briefly encouraged when I removed the paste, as it looked like the stain was darker, but this was only a surface effect. After 1 day, the pastes with and without iron were identical in stain. However, the browner hennaes, I believe, grow in iron rich soil. (ie Rajasthan) (maybe someday Oklahoma) Perhaps henna can carry its own iron!
