I think it only takes ONE, usually unexpected, very long henna gig to
teach anyone going into a social situation (for love or money) to :

1. bring 2x the henna you think you will need, just in CASE you get
some "walk-ups" while you're working, (or the person you're hennaeing
suddenly changes his/her mind and decides they want a full back
piece, not an anklet like you already discussed!) and,

2. boy howdy they arent kidding when they say to keep that j-bottle
FULL. i swear, barrow, keeping the bottle full will save you from
infinite amounts of pain. a smooth paste in a full full bottle will
flow like ink and keep your thumb from hurting. i know i have
definitely ended up where you're at (sore thumb, and a thumb joint
that was popping in and out of place) until i quit being silly and
just made/brought more than i ever think i will need. (i thought i
was being wasteful before, but pain changed my mind!).

I know, isnt it an amazing thing that you can actually support your
henna addiction and make others happy for just a few quid on the
side? Lakshmi is so very gracious -- i dont ask Her for a helluva
profit, just Her blessings, the opportunity to make someone else feel
special by being adorned, and enough $$ to offset my henna expenses.
And so far She has always favored me after my petitions (could it be,
as Catherine said, the hennaed hands lighting Her incense that makes
Her inclined to oblige???)

sorry, i dont have a clue about your lemon question.
