: in Paris where I stayed this past summer had her bottom lip and chin
: hennaed.
Epidermal or dermal body art?

It was a weird color, tho, and probably unnoticable to
: someone who hadn't seen it before and didn't know what it was. The
: lady was "black" but not in the same way people are in America; she
: was definitely African, and the henna stain appeared to offset her
: natural skin tone by giving it a greenish hue.

I've hennaed many black people, but have never seen greenish results.
Was she using indigo? I know the greenish is considered the most
auspicious color of tattoo in North Africa, but hadn't found a
reference on how they get it greenish. I'm looking at my inadvertant
henna "tattoos" (where I hennaed over a spot the cat scratched, and
now I have permanent freckles) wondering if that might have a greenish
case against darker skin (doesn't look like it). (Damn shame my
husband won't let me near him with the henna, or I could find out!).
