stick question

hello experienced henna-ers,
So far, i have been using homemade tubes (and one time a painbrush,
with disturbing results)and my question is,

How do you apply henna with a stick/wire/toothpick?
Do you use it kinda in a paint brush sorta style, drawing little bit
by little bit, or do you drag up little slivery lines of henna and
drape them onto the skin, or some other way i havent even thought
of????

Also, if someone could post a pic, or link to a pic of a
stick/wire/toothpick drawn henna, that would be really appreciated
