The statue is wearing shoes, albeit red ones, so I can't see her
feet, but her hands are not hennaed now. They may have been once.
She looks like she was once daubed with a thick layer of colored
something but it's mostly gone now. I say thick because she looked
at first glance like a mummified body, like her skin had rotted or
dessicated all over her. Then I noticed it was like that even on her
throne or chair. There is some pigment left, mostly on her veil.
Her hands are definitely wearing several band-type rings, but no
henna remains.

: Men turn up with hennaed fingertips in the medieval period ...
mostly
: men who are scholars or intellectuals. Syria, Egypt, Spain, Persia
: ... only the wealthiest places that had the economic base to
support a
: leisured, embellished, and educated class.
:
: One of the other possible situations for men's fingers to be
hennaed
: would be for a holiday, like Eids. Then ... most people had a bit
of
: henna, and some time off to goof around and play games.
:
: Those books on Spain are winners, yes. And I'm glad you spotted
that
: Tanith. Yup, Tyre was henna ground zero! And Tanith is crucial in
: making the case for henna haveing spread around the Med long before
: the rise of the Greek and Roman civilization. Now, if I'd told
you
: to look at the henna on the Tanith in that book that would have
: influenced your perception of what was there. However, in all of
: these cases, you've interpreted dark fingers and toes the same as I
: have, as henna ... and thus independently, we verify each other.
:
: THAT'S why you NEVER take another's research for granted, or once
the
: research is done ... just not bother do to it again. You go back
over
: the same material and see if you come to the same or different
: conclusions!
:
: I don't have the Welsh book at home with me, though I can pick it
up
: from the library next I'm over there.
