Hello fellow henna artists.
Boy do I love doing henna.....but..I constantly come back to the
forum with the same questions and particular difficulty. Again, it's
about sealing the design..
I started working at a tattoo shop doing henna. My first work of art
there was on a womans lower back. It was a beautiful design and I
applied NS and paper tape. She had alot of fine downy hair and I
wondered how the removal of the tape went. I know it can be painful
when removed from a hairy area. Does anyone ever shave an area to be
hennaed? Anyway, I then applied some henna to the owner of the shops
arm (between wrist and elbow). She also was kindof hairy. She offered
to shave the area. I told her not to. I applied NS and tried
putting gauze over it and another tape which is foam and waterproof.
The next morning she came in and the area that was under the tape was
raw. The tape had pulled her skin right off. She then had trouble
removing the new skin. She at first tried to pick it off and again
the skin came off with the NS. So, needless to say....she was kindof
a mess. She said she has very sensitive skin. I guess it was better
her than a customer.........and at least I got feedback right away.
I feel like people leave and I don't get to know how everything
turned out. I used to give people self-addressed stamped postcards
to send back to me with just a few simple questions, but only a few
sent them back. It wasn't worth it.
So, I've been telling people to remove NS by placing arm (or
whatever) over steaming water and rubbing. IS THIS THE BEST WAY TO
REMOVE IT? I find when I use paper tape over NS it takes off the NS
when it comes off, but is still kinda hard to remove over hair
without any pain.
I am driving myself crazy with this........I am now creating a
consent form to use in the shop. Just to ask people about allergies
and to have a release form.
So, I feel so confused as to what to do to seal the design. I need a
real tried and tested way to remove NS. And something to put over
that. But I also like it to be as non-complicated as possible. HELP
Do I go back to L/S? My skin is fine with NS but it doesn't seem to
make much of a difference in terms of final stain color(with or w/o).
I really like to send people on their way with an adhered
design.....to enable them to keep it on their skin as long as
possible. The NS and tape seemed to be working pretty well.
I need lots of feedback on this stuff.I'm going to be doing alot of
henna this summer and I need my act together.
Thanks so much.....I also needed to vent......Please give me as many
details as possible...
Nancy
